Mick Knighton Mesothelioma Research Fund

We are supporting MKMRF in their excellent work assisting research into Mesothelioma. "What is Mesothelioma?" That's what I said when my dad told me his friend John had died from the disease in summer 2009. "It's a form of cancer you can develop from working with asbestos" he told me. "Could you get it dad?" I asked him. "Possibly" he said. Those words came back to haunt us in January 2010 when we received the devastating news. Yes dad did have mesothelioma. It is a form of cancer which is currently incurable and can take lives in as little as nine months. We consider ourselves the lucky ones that after an early diagnosis and pioneering surgery we had another three fantastic years with Dad before he passed away in March 2013. However it was still far too soon. That's why we are supporting MKMRF in their work to build up a Mesothelioma Tissue Bank, to collect and store biological tissue from Mesothelioma patients to be used by doctors and researchers when looking for future treatments to help the growing number of people in the UK diagnosed with mesothelioma. We hope a day will come when another family just like us can be saved from the pain we are feeling through the development of further treatment options and even better- the chance of a cure.
